Marian Alonso was born and raised in the Bay Area. She began quilting in March of 2020 for the same reason many people picked up new hobbies that year. After completing 8 quilts in one year, she knew she would never stop. She leans toward modern and improv quilting with bold, saturated colors. “Precision Improv Quilt” was created by making half-square triangles using striped fabric. The squares were assembled in a variety of improvised sizes, then pieced together with solid mustard fabric to fill in the blanks. Larger blocks were arranged on point (or “en pointe” if you please) to achieve the chevron effect. This quilt was pieced, quilted, and bound by the artist. Marian is a member of the East Bay Modern Quilters and the East Bay Heritage Quilters. She lives in Emeryville with her partner and dog, and works as a Speech-Language Pathologist at a local hospital.
