Artist Statement
As a photographer for many years, I’ve been interested in exploring new ways to create stories with my images. This piece is first in a series of combining multiple photos layered through photo image transfer technique, then further developed through carving, drawing, painting and adding color. In this b&w work, I’m intrigued by the sense of ‘past but not gone’ emerging from the completed image. One of the figures in this piece is from an antique Berkeley artifact, can you guess where?
Biography
Karen Palamos graduated from California College of Arts and Crafts in the 1980s, and works primarily with photography, printmaking, video and painting. She has exhibited work in various cities including San Francisco, Oakland, Santa Cruz, Pacific Grove, Chicago, New York, Mazatlan and San Miguel de Allende, Mex., has had photography published in magazines, newspapers, university publications, brochures and has created and conducted community art experiences. Karen has worked in television production and been a radio DJ. Also a seasoned psychotherapist, she brings creative endeavors into her therapeutic work.
